Andrew Bailey, born 30 March 1959, is a British central banker, who became Governor of the Bank of England on 16 March 2020.
Mark Carney’s successor took the reins of the central institute at a particularly delicate moment and had to deal with the coronavirus emergency.
Before taking on the role of BoE governor, Bailey had time to develop a respectable resume.
From January 2004 to April 2011 he was Chief Cashier of the Central Bank, Deputy Governor from April 2013 to July 2016 and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Conduct Authority from 2016 to 2020.
The governor attended Wyggeston Boys’ Grammar School in Leicester, where he laid the foundations before moving on to Cambridge, where he gained a degree in history and a PhD.
Its first entry into the Bank of England dates back to 1985.
