Argentine Peso (ARS)

The Argentine peso - previously “peso converible” - is the official currency of Argentina, identified with the $ symbol. Each Argentine peso is divided into 100 centavos.

The history of the Argentine peso

The other coins that followed one another in the history of Argentina were also called "peso"; with the progress of inflation it became necessary to remove some zeros and introduce a currency with a different qualifier. Since 1970, 13 zeros have been eliminated from the expression of money - by a factor of ten trillion.

In more recent times, the official exchange rate fluctuated around 3 pesos per dollar between 2002 and 2008, around 4 pesos between 2009 and 2011, and exceeded 6 pesos in November 2013, before rising again to 6.5 pesos per dollar in December 2013.
