The Bail In (bailout from the inside) is a model of bailout of troubled banks that contrasts with the Bail Out, ie the intervention of external aid (usually by the states).
The Bail In has been active in Italy since 1 January 2016 as a consequence of the transposition of the European BRRD directive into Italian law.
The Bail In discipline provides that the parties involved in the rescue of technically bankrupt banks are primarily shareholders and savers.
