EssilorLuxottica is an Italian-French company specializing in the design, production and marketing of lenses, optical equipment, eyeglasses and sunglasses.
It was born on October 1, 2018, the day on which the merger between Leonardo Del Vecchio’s company and Hubert Sagnières’s French company was made official. This followed the announcement in January 2017 with which the two groups confirmed their intentions to get closer.
The marriage between the two companies gave birth to a giant with revenues of 16 billion euros and a capitalization of approximately 57 billion. However, the problems were not long in coming.
In March, the Italian and French partners started a real war in which Sagnières accused del Vecchio of wanting to conquer the entire company, while the latter denied the accusations, speaking instead of alleged violation of the merger agreements made in 2017.
EssilorLuxottica is listed on the Paris Stock Exchange. The headquarters of the company, which today has about 15,000 employees, is located in Charenton-le-Pont.
