The European Commission is one of the main institutions of the European Union, its executive body and promoter of the legislative process. It is made up of one delegate per member state: however, each delegate is required to have maximum independence from the national government that has indicated him.
The Commission represents and protects the interests of the European Union as a whole; having the monopoly of the power of legislative initiative, it proposes the adoption of community legislative acts, the final approval of which lies with the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union; it is also responsible for the implementation of political decisions by the legislative bodies manages EU programs and the expenditure of its funds.
