Hamas (Islamic Resistance Movement) is a Palestinian political organization, considered by the West - including the European Union - a terrorist organization. Its foundation in the sphere of the Muslim Brotherhood from which they broke away in 2017 dates back to 1987, the year of the first Intifada.
The aim of Hamas is the return of Palestine to its pre-colonial condition and the establishment of a Palestinian state. On October 7, 2023, in an unprecedented operation, it attacked Israel with both a hail of rockets and a land penetration, generating an ongoing war with the Jewish State.
