The Hungarian economy is based above all on agriculture and livestock, the industrial center of the country is developed in the Budapest area.
After the collapse of the Comecon and the Soviet industry in 1990, the Hungarian economy underwent notable transformations: liberalizations and reforms, the privatization of some companies allowed the establishment of a market economy which favored the entry of capital from abroad.
Since 2004, Hungary has been officially part of the European Union, but does not share its single currency.
