Iceland is an island nation in Northern Europe, located in the North Atlantic Ocean, between Greenland and Great Britain, northwest of the Faroe Islands.
Iceland is the least populous country in Europe, with a population of less than 319,575 in 2012.
Iceland applied to join the European Union in July 2009. It is part of the Nordic Council, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and the Schengen Area.
The national currency is the Icelandic Krona (ISK)
