ITA Airways, Italia Trasporto Aereo S.p.A., is the Italian airline born from the ashes of the now former Alitalia, the national flag carrier.
The newco presents itself as a company 100% owned by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, with the aim of carrying out activities in the air transport sector. Alfredo Altavilla is the executive president of Ita Airways and Fabio Lazzerini holds the role of Chief Executive Officer.
Active since November 2020, the new Italian company began flight operations on 15 October 2021. The previous day, on 14 October, ITA Airways purchased the Alitalia brand for 90 million euros.
The company began its transport operations with a fleet of 52 aircraft, with the aim of increasing the quantity of latest generation aircraft until 2025, when an allocation of 105 aircraft is expected.
ITA flights are concentrated on the Rome Fiumicino hub and Milan Linate airport, with 47 destinations in November 2021. An increase in long-haul routes is estimated by 2025.
