Born in 1955, Jair Bolsonario is the current president of Brazil. After winning the most votes in the first round with 46% of the vote, in the runoff election on October 28, 2018, he then beat out the Workers’ Party candidate Fernando Haddad with 55%.
Of Italian origin, after a military career, he first became a member of parliament in 1991 for the Social Liberal Party. In the 2018 elections, despite a serious attack, he managed to lead his party (conservative and, for some, markedly right-wing) to victory, thus breaking the Workers’ Party’s dominance.
