Until the 1950s, Libya was considered one of the poorest countries in the world, above all given the low productivity of the territories. Thanks to the oil deposits and the subsequent nationalizations, Libya has experienced a period of growth, reduced in the 80s with the oil crisis. In the nineties, the Libyan economic situation was affected by the economic sanctions imposed on Libya by the UN in 1991, then revoked in 1997.
