Passport

A passport is a document that authorizes a person, certifying their identity, to travel outside of Italy and the European Union. An Italian passport is valid for 10 years; upon expiration, it is not possible to passport renewal and must be requested for a new document.

Since 2010, passports in Italy have been electronic, as the 48-page booklet contains a microchip containing all of the owner’s personal information.

You can request an electronic passport at:

  • the Police Headquarters;
  • the passport office of the Public Security Commissioner;
  • the Carabinieri station.

The application must be submitted with the following documents:

  • printed passport application form;
  • valid identification document;
  • 2 passport photos;
  • receipt of payment, via bank transfer, of €42.50 for an ordinary passport;
  • passport stamp duty of €73.50;
  • if you are the parent of a minor, the signed consent of the other parent is required.
