The term podcast indicates a digital piece that is transmitted through the Internet and more specifically through the RSS (Really Simple Syndication) protocol. The neologism is born from the fusion of the English terms pod (which means pod, container), and (broad)cast (which means diffusion, transmission). The origin of the medium is also associated with the iPod device by Apple Inc., which was among the first digital devices to be used for playing podcasts.
podcasting is today a real communication model, increasingly used for the transmission of pieces of different lengths (from a few minutes to an hour or even more), divided by thematic category (e.g. educational, comedy, current affairs, personal growth, narrative podcasts, etc.) through digital platforms that purchase the rights.
Finally, podcasts can be downloaded (download) and stored locally on PCs, smartphones, tablets and other digital devices to be listened to even offline.
