Silvio Berlusconi

Silvio Berlusconi is an Italian politician and businessman, currently a member of the European Parliament and a member of the European People’s Party.

He began his entrepreneurial activity in the construction sector, in 1975 he founded the finance company Fininvest and in 1993 the multimedia production company Mediaset (MS).

In 1993 he also founded the center-right movement Forza Italia, which later merged into Il Popolo della Libertà in 2008 and then returned to being autonomous following the dissolution of the unitary political project in October 2013.

Elected to the Chamber of Deputies in the political elections of March 1994, he was confirmed in subsequent legislatures. He obtained four offices as President of the Council: the first in the XII legislature (1994), two consecutive ones in the XIV (2001-2005 and 2005-2006) and finally in the XVI legislature from 2008 to 2011.

Following a final conviction for tax fraud, he was declared forfeited as Senator on November 27, 2013. Given the retroactivity of the Severino law, Berlusconi was unable to run as a candidate in the elections of 4 March 2018.

Once he was rehabilitated, he stood as a candidate in the European elections in May 2019, being elected MEP.

According to the Forbes ranking 2021, Silvio Berlusconi is currently the sixth richest person in Italy, with an estimated personal wealth of 7, 6 billion dollars.
