Viktor Orban is a Hungarian politician, leader of the conservative Fidesz-Civic Union party (part of the European People’s Party) and Prime Minister of Hungary since 2010, where he rose to prominence for his hard line on the migrant issue.
Born in 1963, married and the father of five, Orban founded the Fidesz party in 1988 (with a clearly anti-communist stance) and was elected to lead the country for the first time in 1998.
After leading the opposition to center-left governments from 2002, he returned to the post of Prime Minister in the 2010 elections and was re-elected in 2014 and 2018, winning 49% of the vote.
