It is a very safe app, yet there are several reasons why you should consider stopping using WhatsApp.
Meta, the company that owns the app, is constantly modernizing its platform and improving it. Lately, developers have focused a lot on security. Despite this, however, there are still aspects that do not keep users who use WhatsApp safe.
1. Security and privacy
The first reason to consider stopping using WhatsApp concerns the security and privacy of users in general. Yes, WhatsApp has end-to-end encryption, so no one, not even Meta, has access to the content of the conversations, but collection of metadata (information on when and with whom you communicate) is carried out, which can be used to better target ads within Meta platforms.
2. Sharing data with Meta
WhatsApp is owned by Meta, the same company that also owns Facebook and Instagram. WhatsApp shares some information about users with its parent company, which can then use it, usually to improve ad targeting.
3. GDPR Issues
Many will already be familiar with the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation); all companies must follow what is expected in some way. Meta unfortunately isn’t very good at not doing this, and WhatsApp itself has been criticized in the past for failing to comply with these rules.
