You can also create NFTs from your smartphone in a few simple steps. Here is the step-by-step guide: what is it for, who can do it and how much does it cost?

How to create NFTs quickly and easily

NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are one of the most revolutionary innovations in the digital world and blockchain. An NFT is a unique cryptographic token, representing ownership of a unique digital asset, such as a work of art, video, virtual collectible, or video game item. Unlike cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum, which are fungible and can be exchanged for one another without distinction, each NFT has unique characteristics that make it non-interchangeable.

NFTs have gained popularity for their ability to place unique, verifiable value on digital assets, offering new opportunities for artists, musicians, game designers, and content creators to monetize their work in ways that were previously unthinkable. Through the use of the blockchain, NFTs guarantee the authenticity and ownership of digital assets, making it possible to buy and sell these objects in dedicated online marketplaces.

Creating an NFT isn’t just for big companies or tech experts. Even a private individual can create and sell their own NFTs, thanks to user-friendly platforms that simplify the process. Let’s break down the steps needed to create your NFT, from choosing the right platform to preparing the digital content and issuing it on the blockchain. You’ll discover how this technology can open up new avenues for expressing your creativity and potentially generating revenue.

How to create NFTs, step by step

To create NFTs, there are 3 steps:

  1. the actual creation of the digital resource;
  2. the minting of the same (i.e. transformation of the file into an NFT);
  3. the sale.

Let’s start with the basics. If you want to create an NFT you must first understand what type of digital asset you want to turn into an NFT. It can be a photo, video, digital work, song, video game, meme, GIF, or tweet (read also What it means that a tweet was sold for almost 3 million dollars). Technically, anything that lives on the internet can become an NFT, or non-fungible token.

Another important thing is to make sure you own the intellectual property rights to the item you want to turn into an NFT.

Once you have chosen the type of NFT, you move on to the second step, the creation and minting process. There are numerous platforms that allow artists to create and sell NFTs. Among the largest are OpenSea, SuperRare, Rarible and Nifty Gateway.

To mint an NFT you will need:

  • a blockchain. The most popular is Ethereum, but there are also alternatives such as Tezos, Polkadot, Cosmos and Binance Smart Chain;
  • a digital wallet (or wallet), as you will need cryptocurrency to finance your initial investment and have access to your digital assets. The best wallet for NFT creators and collectors is considered Metamask, but there are also Trust Wallet by Binance, Coinbase and Math Wallet, just to name a few of the most famous.

At this point you must upload the items to the NFT platform of your choice, and they will be transferred to the blockchain with a simple click. The transaction is not free and you have to pay some fees (the gas taxes, i.e. the fees paid to process and validate cryptocurrency transactions).

Once the minting process is completed, you can put your NFT up for sale, choosing, depending on the possibilities offered by the platform, whether to sell at a fixed price or at auction.

How much does it cost to create NFT

Although there are sites that allow you to mint NFTs for free, those evaluating the possibility of entering this potentially profitable sector must consider initial expenses.

In general, the costs associated with NFTs are:

  • gas taxes, common to all cryptocurrency-related expenses
  • commissions for opening the wallet account, which depends on the size chosen
  • sales commissions

As Slate explains in an article, the process of creating and selling an NFT can cost from less than $1 to more than $1,000. In a post on Medium, author Allen Gannett told readers about his experience, explaining that he spent $1,300 to make 4 NFTs with the image of famous paintings that he downloaded for free from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Listed for sale on Rarible, Gannett received an offer of $76 for one of them and had to pay another $88 fee to accept it.

Fees may vary due to cryptocurrency price volatility. Additionally, some platforms ask for fees upfront, while others only charge artists a percentage of the final sales price for the NFT created. Did you know that you can also create and draw NFTs on Android and iPhone smartphones?

The best apps for creating NFT

We have already explained in detail how and where an NFT is created, but one thing you need to know if you are now approaching the world of digital works is that it is possible to create NFTs also on your smartphone or tablet thanks to some app free and easy to use. In this article, we will take a closer look at some of the best apps for creating NFT.

1. OpenSea

OpenSea is the largest and most popular NFT marketplace in the world. The platform allows anyone with a cryptocurrency wallet to create, mint, sell, and buy NFTs. To create an NFT on OpenSea you must first log in with your virtual wallet. At this point, you need to click on the "Create" button at the top right and sign the (free) transaction with MetaMask. A screen appears in which to upload the file you want to transform into an NFT (maximum size: 100 MB). You then need to enter some information, such as your name, a link to a personal website or social profile, a brief description, the number of NFTs to create, and the blockchain you want to use. Once you have entered all the information, simply press “Create” and confirm the transaction.

OpenSea also has a mobile app available on the App Store and Google Play, which you can download to keep track of your NFTs and take a look at what the market is offering. With the OpenSea mobile app, you can connect to your profile to view your NFT collection, discover new releases, popular artists, and indie digital creators, add digital assets to your favorites, and stay up to date on the world of NFTs. Due to its popularity and completeness, OpenSea is included in our list of the best apps for NFTs, but we specify that you cannot create NFTs from an iPhone or mobile device from the app, but only from the site.

2. NFT Creator

Creators can take advantage of hundreds of filters and graphics and thousands of fonts and backgrounds to add text to images and personalize them. The app can be downloaded for free and includes a three-day free trial, but to use it you need to sign up for a subscription which costs $3.99 per week or $49.99 per year.
