Electric car tires are more likely to blow out: here’s why.
Electric cars represent the future of mobility. Or so it seems. After the initial enthusiasm for the creation of these non-polluting vehicles, electric cars, at least in Europe, seem to have lost momentum. In 2024, sales are plummeting with numbers in the deep red. Lack of clarity on incentives, high costs, inadequate charging infrastructures are the reasons that have driven customers away from electric vehicles, pushing them to still choose vehicles with a combustion engine, with diesel dominating despite the stop to sales in 2035.
The advantages of electric cars are many because they do not pollute, have a high autonomy and the charging costs still allow you to save compared to refueling with fuel. In addition to the advantages, there are also disadvantages. One of these is the greater probability of tires bursting.
Electric car tires are more likely to blow out
Ben Roels, a lecturer in automotive technology at Karel de Grote University College, explained that electric cars are more likely to blow out than a tire. The reason is that they are heavier than cars with a traditional engine. The greater weight that weighs on the tires causes the wheels to wear out more quickly.
In addition, electric cars generate more power during acceleration, which puts more pressure on the tires than vehicles with a combustion engine. So how can you avoid the risk?
If you want to avoid risks, it is important to check the wear of the tires more frequently than with a car with a traditional engine. To delay wear, it is important to accelerate and brake more gently. This helps and allows the tires to wear out more slowly, keeping you away from the tire dealer.
Other advantages and disadvantages of electric cars
Electric cars certainly have many positive aspects but alongside the pros there are also some negative aspects. One of the most important is certainly autonomy. The cars that cost more offer greater autonomy but the cheaper ones force you to stop for charging more often. For cars used in the city it is not a drama but in the case of long trips you have to plan stops and charging phases in advance, which makes them inconvenient.
Another disadvantage is the value of the used car. We know that buying a new electric car requires a significant investment, considering the high prices. Being a new technology, there are doubts about the value of the used car. How long will they maintain their value?
However, the positive aspects of an electric car must certainly also be mentioned. The advantages are of an economic nature. Once the large investment for the purchase has been made, then the savings are guaranteed. Consumption and charging costs are reduced if compared to a normal car. Then the insurance on electric vehicles has a lower cost than that of other cars. In fact, you can save between 10% and 30% compared to when you take out a policy for diesel or petrol cars.
