According to the Wall Street Journal, YouTube is internally testing Playables, a feature that allows people to play video games directly on the platform.
YouTube is testing Playables, a new feature that will allow users to use Google’s proprietary platform to play video games.
The choice of the company led by Sundar Pichai to implement this function, according to the Wall Street Journal, has to do with the need to increase the profitable sectors of YouTube.
YouTube Tests Playables: What We Know
Not much is known about Playables, YouTube’s new feature for playing online. For now we know that it can be used both by smartphone (with iOS and Android operating systems), and by PC.
Furthermore, for those who choose to use the smartphone, the function will be available both from browser and from the app. An internet connection will be required to use it, however you will not need to download other applications (in addition to YouTube, possibly).
YouTube is not the first platform that evaluates the possibility of inserting game functions inside it. For example, Netflix has already launched Games, a function that allows users to access over 50 games in Italy.
As for the games that will be available on Playables for now, only one is known, since it is among those with which insiders are testing the platform. Its name is Stack Bounce, it is produced by Gamesnacks and is available online on the company’s website.
In the past, Google had already launched Stadia, a cloud gaming platform that allowed you to play on a computer without any console, simply using a joystick connected via bluetooth. However, the project was not as successful as hoped, which led the American company to close it.
Playables: when will the platform to play video games on YouTube
Currently Playables, according to WSJ, is only available to some Google employees who are testing it; it is therefore not possible to know when it will actually arrive on the market.
Of course, with the arrival of this new feature, Google will try to maintain the monopoly in the "casual gaming" sector, obtained thanks to the Play Store.
