Usually, it is always a small circle of models that can download the new features and fully enjoy the "Apple" experience, and yet, this year there is something new: there are numerous models that will be able to enjoy this new update.

As explained by Apple itself, iOS 18 introduces Apple Intelligence, the personal intelligence system for iPhone, iPad and Mac which combines the "power of generative models to the user’s specific context to deliver incredibly useful and relevant intelligence”. Designed to protect your privacy, the Apple Intelligence System integrates seamlessly with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and MacOS Sequoia.

But be careful, not all devices that can download iOS 18 will be able to enjoy Apple Intelligence.

So let’s see which iPhones will be eligible for the iOS 18 update (with Apple Intelligence or not) and consequently, which ones will not be able to update in autumn 2024.

Apple, which iPhones and iPads will feature iOS 18

Apple has numerous surprises in store for users with the latest update. As explained by the company, in autumn 2024, users will be able to enjoy:

• A new lock screen with more customization possibilities;
• Improvements to the Photos and Messages apps;
• New widgets for the home screen;
• Advanced multitasking features on iPad;
• Greater privacy controls.

The other big news, as anticipated, concerns the list of compatible devices, in this way, customers will be able to decide whether to change their iPhone or not. Well, unlike other years the official list is full of surprises. Here are the iPhones compatible with iOS 18.

As previously specified, however, not all models that receive iOS 18 will be able to enjoy the Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence features. The only devices that will be able to take advantage of all the features of the update are devices with A17 Pro chip, therefore iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Max released at the end of 2023.

As regards the iPads compatible with iPadOS 18, the models selected by the multinational are:

• iPad mini (5th generation and later);
• iPad (7th generation and later),
• iPad Air (3rd generation and later);
• iPad Air (M2):
• iPad Pro 11" (1st generation and later);
• iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd generation and later);
• iPad Pro (M4).

These iPhones and iPads will not have iOS 18

After carefully reading the list of compatible devices, you realize that the list is really extensive and includes all iPhones starting from the iPhone XR, released in 2018. This means that even owners of older iPhones will be able to enjoy the latest news of the Apple operating system, although they may not be able to enjoy Apple Intelligence.

The list of iPhone and iPad devices not compatible with iOS 18 and therefore unable to download the operating system update is shorter. As for iPhones, the only ones who will not be able to enjoy the new features are:

Previously supported iPad models that will not receive the iPadOS 18 update are the iPad Pro 10.5-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch second generation and 6th generation iPad.
