Crowdfunding, literally “fundraising”, is a tool used in the digital age to finance and support business ideas and projects. Today crowdfunding takes place on the Internet, mostly through special platforms such as Indiegogo and Kickstarter, but also on social networks.
The business model of crowdfunding platforms is based on financial support from lenders around the world who in return can receive the prototype of the supported product, a letter of thanks or other rewards that are not of an economic nature. The crowdfunding platform, on the other hand, retains a percentage of the amount of money raised to launch the project.
Thanks to the growth decree bis of the Monti era and the green light from Consob itself to the regulation on the "raising of risk capital by innovative start-ups through online portals", Italy is the first European country to adopt a ad hoc legislation to allow Startups the opportunity to raise funds from the Internet.
