After World War II, Greece enjoyed a flourishing moment of economic expansion, often referred to as the "Hellenic economic miracle".
Since 2001, Greece has joined the economies of the euro area; the service industry and the tourism sector represent the major source of income for the Greek country which, however, is experiencing the devastating effects of the crisis.
Greece, in fact, is often described as the weak link in the chain that threatens to blow up the entire Euro system, threatening the possibility of a Grexit (the expression, coined by the press, indicates Greece’s default).
