Despite a large approval within Democrat voters, many would rather Joe Biden not run in the 2024 elections.

Democrats don't want Biden to Run Again in 2024: the poll

One year and a half from now, the United States will be engulfed once again in the election fire. In November 2024, the American people will be called to choose a new president. There is a slight chance the 2020 Trump vs Biden fight will be repeated, though it seems it wouldn’t be the preferred choice for Americans.

Donald Trump is, so far, the only official candidate for the 2024 elections. He will have to run against other Republican nominees in the primaries and, if successful, run for the third time in a row.

Current US president Joe Biden has yet to officially announce his nomination and it is yet unsure whether he truly wants it or not. Biden will be 82 by then, an age that worries many Democrat voters.

Indeed, according to a poll by Monmouth University, only 1 in 4 Democrats voters would like Biden to run again in 2024. That is not to say, however, that Biden is unpopular among his voter base.

According to the poll, 74% of Democrats have a favorable opinion of Joe Biden, and only 14% held unfavorable views.

Nevertheless, only 25% of respondents said they wish Biden to run again. 44% of the overall sample would rather he stepped aside, while 30% showed no preference between the two options.

A grave indecision

Democrats appear to be saying they like the job Biden has done, but maybe it’s time for him to move on when his term is up,” said Monmouth University director Patrick Murray.

Indeed, the biggest share of Democrats who’d like Biden to step aside are young voters. 54% of respondents under 50 years old said they don’t want Biden to run in 2024. This statistics is most likely due to Biden’s age, which makes young people feel less represented.

Crucially, Democrats couldn’t name who could be Biden’s successor. “However,” Murray continued, “no top tier of candidates emerges when these voters are asked to name a preferred alternative. Part of that could simply be the holding pattern that Democrats are in because Biden has signaled that he will, in fact, run.

Among every choice, vice president Kamala Harris was the most popular with 13%.

On the other side of the fence, Republicans too seem quite uncertain on which candidate could beat Trump at the primaries. Despite Trump’s own issues with the law, he is still by far the most popular Republican in the United States.

If the Democratic Party cannot present a suitable successor for Biden, how can they hope to beat Trump once again?

This question is currently being discussed in the highest elites of America. Its outcomes will become public in the next few months, and will define the world’s political discourse for the next year.
