Sometimes you regret adding a harassing person on Facebook, perhaps because they are annoying or because of their habit of posting content that we do not like. Fortunately, the social network provides us with a very useful option to block "the friend" in question and avoid being disturbed or view unwanted posts.
In particular, the option allows you to make your own content invisible to unwanted glances and to avoid being tagged in posts, comments and photos, invited to join groups to participate in events or to "like" pages . The blocked user cannot even send chat messages or send a friend request to those who have silenced them.
However, it must be borne in mind that the block acts in both directions, preventing those who have implemented it from the exact same limitations towards the other user. Often it’s not a big deal, because if you get to block someone, it means you have very little desire to have anything to do with them.
How to block someone on Facebook
To block someone on Facebook, such as someone who annoys you or whose updates you don’t want to see, you need to:
- click on the thumbnail of the profile photo at the top right;
- select "Privacy Settings" -> "Privacy Center";
- once here you have to go to the first option on the left “Security - Manage your privacy to limit who can interact with you and what you share” and press “Start”;
- in the new screen click on the blue button “See privacy options” -> “Facebook”;
- choose "Block someone" in the vertical menu on the left;
- here you can choose various options to impose a more or less severe block, for example by imposing some restrictions on the posts displayed or making it impossible to send messages via chat. Regardless of your choice, to add users to one of these lists, click on the “Edit” button and then click on “Add to the list of blocked persons”. All that remains is to find who you want to enter and press the "block" button, present next to his name.
Who is blocked on Facebook does not receive a notification, but will realize it if and when they decide to interact with you or peek at your profile, because they will not be able to do so.
Facebook: the function to "silence" arrives
If you prefer a softer solution, Facebook also allows you to "silence" one or more users for thirty days, so as to enjoy a little quiet without risking compromising any friendships. It also works for pages and groups. To exploit it, just take a random post from the user who is bothering us, select the three dots to the right of his name and select "Pause X posts for 30 days". In place of X, of course, the name of the person or page will be written.
At the end of the month of “peace and quiet”, Facebook will offer the possibility to extend the duration of this light version of the block.
