The new feature designed by Meta comes after great requests from users, who after an initial moment of enthusiasm began to notice some impractical aspects of voice messages. When they were first introduced, most of the public had an extremely positive reaction.

Whatsapp audio has proven to be the perfect middle ground for many users between chat messages and phone calls. Later, the developers added an option to adjust the playback speed of voice messages. This function has also been welcomed with enthusiasm, given that most users have little patience for long voice messages, perhaps containing superfluous pauses or uninteresting details.

Who, however, has never found themselves in difficulty when faced with a voice message that they could not listen to? Sooner or later, all users have found themselves in this position, with the related annoyance of not being able to complete the speech or receive an important communication.

A noisy environment, a private conversation, or even just the impossibility of listening to the message out of good manners... There will soon be a solution to these problems, even if some users will experience it before others. For the moment, only the following languages are supported:

• Spanish;
• Portuguese;
• Russian;
• Hindi.

The developers are working to increase the offering, so it’s only a matter of time before Meta also adds Italian and other languages. Not to mention that the transcription option could still prove very valuable for those who converse with foreign friends and perhaps struggle to keep up with the conversation.

Everything within the app, privacy protected

Meta has taken the necessary precautions to protect the privacy and confidentiality of users, to protect conversations even in the event of transcription. The latter will always be managed and stored within the Whatsapp app, protecting them from exposure to hackers which would instead be facilitated by delegation to a remote server.

Users will not have to do anything other than update the application, however it could update automatically depending on the settings chosen, and install an additional transcription package that contains the languages present. To be among the first to test the new function, however, you must join the beta program and thus contribute to its improvement.
