The term chat comes from the English chat and refers to various online services that allow you to exchange messages over the internet.
The platforms on which to chat are many and different depending on the type and all are characterized by some features such as real-time dialogue. There are different ways of chatting: via mobile the most popular is with WhatsApp, but there are also several alternative apps such as Telegram, Viber, Kik and Skype.
Online and via smartphone it is possible to find various chats dedicated to dating, with or without registration: a real and its own business that sees Tinder, the popular dating platform also based on geolocation, as its leader.
Chats have a long history and the first dates back to 1973, Talkomatic, created by Doug Bron and David R. Woolley on Plato System, while the first online system saw the light in February 1989.
The chat language has given rise to a real slang over the years, subjected to various case studies for its practical and intuitive slang through abbreviations (such as "cmq" for however and "4u" for for you), use of the letter kappa and mathematical signs ("xké" instead of why), numbers and special characters ("C6" instead of ci sei), and emoticons (real smiley faces made up of punctuation marks such as: ) or ;), now enriched with emojis, stickers and GIFs).
Chats are now widespread and often at the center of controversies relating to security (such as online scams, solicitation of minors and virus contamination for PCs and smartphones). With the advent of social media, chats resist and are a fundamental part of the interaction between users: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and many others have changed the way of chatting online, which is still constantly evolving today.
