Public debt

The public debt is the debt that the State owes to third parties, who have subscribed bonds with the State in question. The bonds are issued by the state to pay public expenses without however having to impose a heavy tax burden on citizens.

The public debt can be of two types: foreign debt, when it is contracted with foreign countries or internal debt, when the bondholders are the citizens or companies of the country that bought the bonds.
