Sovereign debt

The expression sovereign debt is used to indicate the debt of the State, i.e. the debt that the country owes to its bondholders.
In fact, each State carries out two distinct operations to finance public spending: increase the tax burden or issue bonds.

Issuing bonds is the quickest way to get new money in. The sovereign debt is therefore nothing more than an alternative expression to refer to public debt.
