How much does Christmas cost in the bill?
Christmas is approaching, almost all the gifts have already been purchased by taking advantage of Black Friday and in many homes the decorations are already lighting up the interior and exterior spaces. In particular, the Christmas tree is the protagonist of every living room.
This is why during the Christmas period energy consumption grows up to 30%, but it is not the fault of the luminous decorations. In fact, most of the consumption and costs come from a greater use of household appliances, such as ovens and food processors, but also electric stove.
This year, even in anticipation of the increase in the bill, some families may have decided not to insert the classic lights on the tree and save money. But there’s nothing to fear: Christmas decorations don’t weigh so much on the bill, especially with the right precautions. If you want to save money, there are several tricks to lower your bill.
How much does Christmas cost in the bill: the consumption of the Christmas tree
On a Christmas tree, in addition to balls and festoons, the classic lights are always placed. The tree can also remain lit for many hours a day, from 6 to 8 hours, if not more. But how much does it consume?
Using LED Christmas lights, not bulbs, cuts bills by 90%. Renewing the lights, not just the Christmas ones, is a way to see the final price of the bill drop by several euros.
In fact, a normal strip of old-fashioned incandescent lights, if kept on for 30 days, can cost up to 15 euros in the bill. If we do the same reasoning on two or three strips, the price on the bill also increases up to 50 euros per month.
How much does Christmas cost in your bill: LED lights
LED lights, not just for Christmas, are able to save many euros on bills. So the first step is: renew the lights.
Warning: the lights must have a guarantee and safety mark, such as CE (regulated product in the European Union); bulbs produced in other parts of the world could cause greater dispersion, and therefore greater consumption, if built with poor quality materials.
In this way the cost of the Christmas lights on the tree is greatly reduced. Here is an example:
Assuming that the average cost of a 1kWh (kilowatt hour) is 0.50 euros, the cost of the electrical LED decoration, for 24 hours a day will be between 25 and 30 euro cents a day.
Better still, if the light festoon is on a tree to the expert, you can think of using LED lights powered by a small solar panel. The cost in this case is equal to zero euros in the bill, compared to a slightly higher initial expense for the purchase of LED lights.
