The 2023/2024 Champions League prize pool: how much will Napoli, Lazio, and Inter earn?
Champions League money prize breakdown 2023/2024: another record edition given the large amount of money offered by UEFA, awaiting the reform which, starting from 2024, should almost double the amount of prizes to be distributed to clubs. This is also a way to ward off the specter of the Super League.
Suffice it to say that last year the winners of Manchester City took home a stunning 131 million euro, with the prize money for the 2023/2024 Champions League unchanged compared to last season.
After the group stage, three Italian teams remained in the running: Inter - which also has the certainty of taking part in the profitable first edition of the Club World Cup which will be played in 2025 -, Napoli and Lazio. Milan on the other hand was relegated to the Europa League after finishing third in their group.

The draw for the round of 16 of the Champions League was not particularly favorable to the Italians given that all three started as unseeded: Inter will face Atletico Madrid, Napoli against Barcelona and Lazio will face Bayern Munich.
But how much do those who win the Champions League earn? Given the large prize money offered by UEFA, let’s break down the prizes up for grabs for the 32 participating clubs.
The Champions League prize pool
The 2023/2024 edition of the Champions League will continue to be particularly rich. Last year, UEFA decided to increase the money prizes, perhaps also to try to appease the splitting ambitions of the clubs that continue to look at the Super League project.
UEFA has thus put on the table a total prize pool of 2.02 billion (three years ago it was 1.95 billion), which according to estimates could increase up to 3.5 billion starting from 2024.
Such a rich cake will be divided among the 32 teams participating in the groups: with this presence alone, each club has secured a token worth 15.64 million.
However, to understand how much the team that wins the Champions League will be able to earn, we must start from an assumption: the exact figure cannot be calculated at the beginning of the season, but can only be estimated.
Regardless, there will be a lot of money to put into the cash register. In addition to the fixed token which is the same for everyone and which accounts for 25% of the prize money, 30% of the proceeds will be determined by the results, 30% by the historical ranking and finally the remaining 15% from the market pool.
The various prizes
Starting from the group stage, each team will receive 2.8 million for each win and 930,000 euro for each draw. For example, if a club were to obtain two wins (2.80x2), two draws (0.93x2) and two defeats (0) in the six matches, it would collect a total of 7.46 million euros.
Then there are the prizes already established for reaching the various subsequent rounds. Here’s how much the individual teams earned based on their progress in the Champions League.
- Round of 16 - 9.6 million euros
- Quarter-finals - 10.6 million euros
- Semifinal - 12.5 million euros
- Final - 15.5 million euros
Finally, the winner will be awarded a 4.5 million euros bonus. In practice, by adding the various rounds, the winner of these fixed prizes will be able to collect 52.7 million euros.
Then there is the historical ranking which is based on the club’s performance over the last ten years. For each coefficient share, i.e. the ranking among the thirty-two participants, 1.137 million will be provided.
The market pool then distributes a total of 300.3 million euros deriving from television rights. The four Italians divided half of a cake worth around 50 million based on their placement in the last championship, while for the remaining half, we have to see the progress of each team.
The estimate
In summary, to get an estimate of how much the winner will earn, you will have to add up all these items.
- Fixed attendance fee - 15.64 million euros
- Wins and draws in groups - maximum 16.8 million euros
- Fixed proceeds for each shift passage - 48.2 million euros
- Victory bonus - 4.5 million euros
- Historical ranking - from 1.1 million to 36.38 million euros
- Market pool - at least 6 million euros
Therefore, a leading club that wins this edition of the Champions League will earn at least 120 million. Naturally then all the box office receipts and bonuses from the various sponsors will have to be added.
