Interrail, the most popular service for moving within the borders of the continent with a single train ticket, has updated the list of the must-see and cheapest destinations in Europe. These are the first 10:
- Sofia, Bulgaria: average daily low cost €36.49
- Bucharest, Romania: average daily low cost €38.67;
- Krakow, Poland: average daily low cost €43.48;
- Budapest, Hungary: average daily low cost €43.48;
- Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina: average daily low cost €45.67;
- Belgrade, Serbia: average daily low cost €46.62;
- Warsaw, Poland: average daily low cost €52.30;
- Zagreb, Croatia: average daily low-cost cost €54.41;
- Bratislava, Slovakia: average daily low-cost cost €56.51;
- Český Krumlov, Czech Republic: average daily low-cost cost: €69.99
To these destinations we can add another 10 European cities considered low-cost according to Expatisan’s cost of living calculations.
As explained on the site, to calculate the value of the Price Index of each city, a value of 100 is assigned to a central reference city (which is Prague). Once the reference point is established, the Price Index value of every other city in the database is calculated by comparing their cost of living to that of Prague. Therefore, if a city has a Price Index of 134, it means that living there is 34% more expensive than living in Prague.

- Salamanca, Spain: 80;

- Thessaloniki, Greece: 93.
It is interesting to note that in this list Italy appears with the town of Pescara in the Abruzzo region. Here the cost of the view remains under 100, the reference threshold according to this survey.
