The “human anthill” in Russia houses 18,000 people who never leave their home

The largest condominium in the world houses over 18,000 people and is located in Russia in Kudrovo, near St. Petersburg. We are talking about Novy Okkervil, a complex consisting of 3,708 apartments distributed over twenty-five floors for each of the thirty-five entrances.

It is an authentic city within a city that has broken all records, but it should not be thought of as a legacy of the communist period since its construction is much more recent: in fact, it opened in 2015.

Those who live there have renamed the complex Cheloveiniki, or “human anthill”. Since it began to be populated, it has immediately become very famous, both for the architectural and urban side and for the human side given the particular way of life of many of its tenants.

In fact, some of the residents have stated that sometimes they have not set foot outside the complex for months - some have even spoken of six months without leaving the condominium -, being able to find within the perimeter of Novy Okkervil everything they need.

But be careful, not all that glitters is gold: like everything, the record-breaking condominium located in Russia undoubtedly has many favorable aspects, but also several negative sides.

Novy Okkervil: the largest condominium in the world is in Russia

In Italy, from an urban point of view, you can go from country cottages to small provincial condominiums, to then arrive at the villas in residential areas and the apartment blocks in the suburbs and popular neighborhoods of big cities.

In Russia, however, every record has been shattered. Novy Okkervil is in fact home to over 18,000 people - some sources speak of 20,000 residents -, who within their condominium can count on every comfort, from shopping centers to kindergartens, passing through bars and restaurants. In addition, there is also a pharmacy, a beauty salon, pubs and even a post office.

It is no coincidence that some residents do not feel the need to leave their housing complex, with this unusual condominium that has seen the prices of the various apartments rise in recent years, almost all of which consist of two bedrooms.

There are on average four to six apartments on each floor, while each section contains four rapid elevators where, however, especially at certain times, a long queue with long waits can form to be able to return home.

A condominium owner admitted on social media that he bought his apartment for around $46,000, while its current value has increased to $75,000. Other estimates instead speak of prices going from 35,000 to 90,000 euros.

Another positive aspect is that the residents of Novy Okkervil are mostly very calm and, rarely, have problems occurred. A big problem, however, is that of parking: despite the almost 4,000 parking spaces, there are often double rows and, above all, deliveries create more than one problem.

Many of the residents work in St. Petersburg, but they preferred to take a house in Novy Okkervil which for them is much more peaceful and comfortable. A question, however, arises spontaneously: if in Russia this condominium seems to have become very popular, how many in Italy would be willing to live there? The answer may not be so obvious.
