The Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics will be the 25th edition of the World Games, with the event taking place in Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige from February 6 to 22, 2026.
The official award came in June 2019, with the Milan-Cortina duo managing to beat out the influential bid of Stockholm. The cost-benefit analysis of the 2026 Olympics estimates that Italy could generate a billion-dollar economic return.
Initially, there were three separate Italian bids: in addition to Milan and Cortina, Turin was also in the running. However, when CONI decided to opt for a joint dossier to increase the chances of being awarded the prize, the Piedmontese capital decided to withdraw, sparking considerable political controversy.
