The bond is a credit security which, unlike the share, does not confer on the holder the status of shareholder of the issuing company, but confers the right to receive periodic interest and the repayment of capital to a specific deadline.

The company uses the issue of bonds as a source of financing and the savers who purchase the bonds represent the creditors of the issuing company.
