About a month after the keynote that introduced the new iPhones, Apple is getting ready to take the stage again for another hardware event. It is called Welcome Home and is scheduled for October 13. Announced by Apple’s senior vice president of marketing, Greg Joswiak, it will focus mainly on smart home products.
Several new devices are expected to debut, some that have been rumored for months and others that could be complete surprises. The star of the show should be the second-generation HomePod mini, smarter and more capable than before, joined by the long-awaited Apple Home Hub and an updated Apple TV 4K.
What Apple is expected to unveil
According to the latest forecasts, the first device presented at the Welcome Home event will be the HomePod mini 2, which should keep its design and add new green, blue and sand pink finishes. Rumors also point to a newer chip and support for AI-powered Siri.
The Apple TV 4K, for its part, could get a new, faster processor, 8 GB of built-in RAM, and support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and, here too, AI-powered Siri.
The most ambitious hardware, however, is Apple’s new home hub. Its codename is J490, but it will most likely be called Apple Home Hub once it goes on sale. What is it? A small device with a square display that can be placed on a wall or on a stand. Among other things, it should be able to recognize users through its camera for faster access and to act as the central controller for the various connected devices in a smart home.
More events on the way?
John Ternus’s first weeks as Apple CEO have certainly not started slowly. After the iPhone presentation and the October 13 Welcome Home event, rumors point to another event already in the works. Reports suggest a new series of devices will be shown in the last week of October.
Among others, it could include a MacBook Pro Ultra with an OLED display and a new iPad mini. That timing would fit Ternus’s wish to bring products to market more frequently, rather than concentrating everything in Apple’s traditional launch windows. It is also why the other two iPhone 18 models are expected to arrive in the spring.
