On his social network, former President Donald Trump called for a subversion of the Constitution to declare the rightful winner of the 2020 elections: himself.
Donald Trump comes back on the first pages of every major news outlet with another controversial declaration. On his social network Truth, the former US president endorsed a termination of all rules to declare the rightful winner of the 2020 elections: himself. By all rules, he said in the post, he includes the Constitution as well.
This new controversy comes almost a month after Donald Trump announced his candidacy for the 2024 US elections. He was also reinstated on Twitter after the new owner, Elon Musk, un-banned his account.
Trump, however, decided to not come back on Twitter, remaining on his own social network.
In the post, Trump stated again the same things he has been saying since 2020. He once again stated that the elections were a fraud caused by a rigged electoral system and that the current administration should be thrown out. He said that Big Tech companies revealed the true winner and the old elections were not valid.
And finally, as we said, he called for the subversion of the US constitution to appoint him again as President. A bold statement that has been highly criticized by Democrats and undermined by Republicans.
Dave Joyce, a prominent Republican congressman, said the party is not looking forward to pulling out support for Trump as Presidential candidate. “He says a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean that it’s ever going to happen. So you got to accept fact from fantasy — and fantasy is that we’re going to suspend the Constitution and go backwards,” Joyce replied to a journalist in a Sunday press conference.
Could Trump become president again?
So far, the candidacy of Donald Trump has not shaken the Republican party the way many said it would, at least on the surface. Nobody really knows if a serious contender to Donald Trump as a Republican candidate exists.
It seems, at least for now, that the position of Trump is not contested and he will seriously run against the Democratic candidate in 2024.
The questions are, therefore, who will the Democratic candidate be and if he will have any choice of defeating Trump. So far, current President Joe Biden did not announce his candidacy for 2024, but many think he will go ahead and do it.
Biden has had very good Midterm elections, despite previous talks of a “Red wave” that would sweep the entire Congress. At the same time, however, Democrats have lost the House, so the President will have a harder time discussing his agenda.
Without Congress support, Biden’s presidency might actually fall apart, leaving room for a possible Trump victory in 2024.
And someone calling for the subversion of the Constitution becoming President will definitely ensure interesting times for the future.
