UEFA has announced that Italy and Turkey will host the European football championships in 2032: here are the ten stadiums that will host the matches.
Euro 2032 will be played in Italy and Turkey. On October 10th the decision was made official by UEFA, even if there were few doubts about it: Russia, the only other available candidate, was discarded for obvious reasons.
Initially, the applications of Italy and Turkey to host the 2032 European football championships were separate, with the two countries then deciding to join forces in a joint organization, thus ensuring a shared assignment.
Also on October 10th, UEFA announced that Euro 2028 will be played in United Kingdom and Ireland. Six English stadiums, two Irish ones, one Scottish, and one Welsh will host the matches.
Euro 2024 will instead be played next June in Germany.
But where will the Euro 2032 matches be played in Italy and Turkey? Let’s see what the stadiums could be in the running to host the 59 matches scheduled for the European football championships.
Euro 2032: stadiums in Italy and Türkiye
As was widely expected, Italy and Turkey will jointly host Euro 2032. For the Bel Paese it will be the second time after the 1980 edition, the first which took place in the Old Continent.
For Italy and Türkiye, the challenge will thus be double: in addition to the sporting sphere, there will also be the political one given that Rome and Ankara will have to work closely in the coming years to organize the event in the best possible way.
As for the stadiums, they will be ten in total divided equally between the two host countries: five will be in Italy and the same number in Turkey. The choice of facilities will be made by October 2026.
Even though there are still three years to go before the final choice is made, there are already several rumors regarding the stadiums that could host the matches of the final phase of Euro 2032.
At the moment these are the ten possible stages of Euro 2032.
Italy
- Rome - Olympic Stadium
- Milan - San Siro
- Naples - Diego Armando Maradona Stadium
- Turin - Juventus Stadium
- Bari - Saint Nicholas
Türkiye
- Istanbul - Atatürk Olympic Stadium
- Istanbul - Rams Park
- Istanbul - Ülker Stadium
- Bursa - Sütaş Timsah Park
- Ankara - New Ankara 19 Mayıs Stadium
As far as Italy is concerned, the stadiums of Bari and Naples would have to be renovated. As for San Siro, both Inter and Milan could be relocated by 2032, thus opening a dossier on the stadium’s future.
The cities of Florence, Genoa, Cagliari, Bologna, and Verona are also on early warning, but in all these cases the stadiums would have to be renovated or rebuilt from scratch.
“This is a historic turning point for us. We were able to get a significant amount of time to design and build. The date is October 1st, 2026: which means that we have three years to plan. We don’t start at a disadvantage in terms of stadium indications because 3 have already been considered positively, 2 or 3 are missing - said the head of the FIGC Gabriele Gravina on Sky -. I trust in the support of the Government. However, it cannot be the only solution: it can help, it can facilitate, but it is only one of the elements. We must identify the others through the maturity of the entire ruling class of Italian football.
