The 4 cheapest electric cars in Europe!

Electric cars are no longer the rides of the rich and nerdish. There are plenty of choices now for people who need to get from Point A to Point B, and with technological developments and improving infrastructure, those points can be further apart than ever. Nowadays, the ultra-rich can wait for their electric Koenigseggs, but you can also ask what are the cheapest electric cars in Europe and come up with some surprising answers that you can drive today.

Just like with cars running on internal combustion engines, there are differences between electric car markets. Some cars that fit conditions in one market are out of place in another. Classes of vehicles can be different as well. The European market is a combination of tiny streets and wide-open autobahns, and the cars reflect it. So here, we will look at the cheapest electric cars in Europe.

Citroen Ami — Starting price: <€8,000 | EV range: 75 km
The Citroen Ami is technically not a car. It’s a quad-cycle and limited to 45 kph, or about 28 mph. To save costs, the car is constructed in a unique way. The sides are symmetrical, in that a part on the let side can be put on the right, including the doors. This means that the driver has a suicide door (hinged on the back) while the passenger has the door hinged on the front. The front and back are also symmetrical, so you can’t really tell if the car is coming or going. The result looks practical.

SEAT Mii Electric / Skoda Citigo IV — Starting price: <€18,000 | EV range: 300 km
The VW Group has done group-think rather well when it comes to electric city cars, and the SEAT and Skoda are both finely capable of hauling people and things around town. The basic models are practically identical, though some ways of cutting costs may make you choose one or the other. Or, to paraphrase Top Gear, find the best deal from the nicest sales person in your area, and go for it.
Unlike the Citroen, these are proper cars and they can go on highways. However, they really are designed with the metropolis in mind.

Renault Zoe R110 — Starting price: <€18,000| EV range: 450 km
If you want an electric car from France that, as Jeremy Clarkson might say, doesn’t look like it was designed by the Vichy, then the Renault Zoe R110 is the car for you. It can go further on a charge than the VW-Group offerings. The only question is the safety rating, and what exactly “zero stars” means.
