What are the best orthopedic hospitals in the world? Here’s the updated ranking from Newsweek and Statista.

The best orthopedic hospitals in the world

Every year, millions of people around the world undergo orthopedic procedures, from hip replacements to ligament reconstructions, including the most advanced therapies for scoliosis, complex fractures, and degenerative diseases. orthopedic hospitals are highly specialized facilities for the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of diseases of the musculoskeletal system: bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.

In an era like ours, where the average age of the population is increasing and, with it, the demand for orthopedic care, the quality of care offered in these centers becomes crucial. In Italy alone, according to the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, over 200,000 joint replacement surgeries are performed each year.

But who should you trust when you need the best? To guide patients and families in this delicate decision, Newsweek magazine has published, in collaboration with Statista, the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2025 ranking, which includes the best orthopedic hospitals globally. Let’s discover which facilities are excelling in the field of orthopedics today.

How the World’s Best Orthopedic Hospitals Ranking is Made

The World’s Best Orthopedic Hospitals 2025 ranking, compiled by Newsweek in collaboration with the analytics firm Statista, is based on an in-depth international survey designed to help patients choose high-quality specialized care. For this fifth edition, hospitals in 12 medical specialties were selected, including orthopedics, which features in a list of the 150 best centers worldwide.

The methodology adopted is based on three main pillars. The first is a global survey of tens of thousands of healthcare professionals—physicians, hospital managers, and healthcare workers—who were asked to recommend facilities in their field of specialization. The second element concerns accreditation data: official information on the quality, safety, and standards of the participating facilities. Finally, a third crucial parameter is also considered: Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), or clinical results reported directly by patients, an increasingly used indicator to evaluate the true effectiveness of care received.

The result is a list that combines peer reputation, certified quality, and the direct voice of patients. The award-winning hospitals include internationally renowned names—such as the Mayo Clinic in Rochester (USA) and the Charité in Berlin—as well as leading institutions in countries such as Japan, Brazil, Spain, India, and, of course, Italy. This is a valuable compass for navigating an increasingly complex and global landscape.
