A truly large family; between conflicting relationships and questionable choices, we see why Elon Musk has so many children.

Why does Elon Musk have so many children?

Besides being known for his groundbreaking ventures like Tesla, SpaceX, and Neuralink, Elon Musk often makes headlines (as in this case) for his private life, which is often quite bizarre.

To date, in fact, he has fathered 13 children (14 if you count the one not officially recognized), born to three different women: six children with his first wife, writer Justine Wilson, three with singer Grimes, and four more with Neuralink executive and colleague Shivon Zilis, with whom, however, he has never claimed to be in an official relationship.

The latest addition, Seldon Lycurgus, was born recently, and to this already long list, a supposed fourteenth child has been added, born to Ashley St. Clair, a well-known American influencer, whom Musk has never claimed paternity.

The question everyone is asking is quite natural: Why does Musk have so many children? There are a number of reasons behind this large family, both ideological and social. Let’s see what they are.

A pro-natalist ideology

The first reason why Elon Musk has so many children is linked to his strong pro-natalist ideology.

The entrepreneur has stated several times that one of humanity’s most serious problems, in his opinion, is the declining birth rate. A drastic decline in the population, therefore, could pose a serious risk to the future of our species. Furthermore, he strongly believes that intelligent and successful people should have more children to ensure a sustainable and beneficial future for society.

This isn’t just a personal desire, but rather a true ideological mission, which the tycoon has often shared on social media (especially on X) and in interviews. According to him, not having children would be a "morally wrong" choice for those who have the means to raise them, and he himself seems to want to set an example, even in a rather striking and, perhaps, slightly misguided way.

An unconventional model of fatherhood

Elon Musk is certainly not the typical father who is present and attentive to family management. In most cases, in fact, the children were born through in vitro fertilization, and often there was never a real relationship with the mothers.

As Grimes also explained, the billionaire doesn’t enjoy a good relationship with all of his children, and Vivian, his transgender daughter, has publicly distanced herself from him after numerous disagreements related to her gender transition, which Musk never accepted.

In light of all this, it seems that the Tesla boss doesn’t experience fatherhood in the conventional sense of the term, but rather, is more concerned with spreading his genetic heritage as much as possible, a little here and a little there.

The risk of emulation

The most negative aspect, however, lies not so much in his behavior itself, but in the risk of emulation by others.

Let’s not forget, in fact, that Elon Musk, given his status and the positions (now even political ones) he holds, is increasingly seen as a sort of leader or as a figure who, for better or worse, wields a powerful power of influence.

Indeed, when such a powerful figure transforms multiple and "approximate" fatherhood into a status choice or even a symbol of "alpha male" power, there’s a risk he will be imitated by those who see him as a model of success.

It’s worth remembering that, especially in today’s world, there’s still a need to understand and experience the father figure in the strictest and truest sense of the term; presence, maturity, and awareness are a duty rather than a choice for every parent.
