The best restaurant in the world is Peruvian, but Italy is also there: six of our restaurants stand out in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025. Here is the complete ranking.

A triumph steeped in history and cultural identity was celebrated in Turin - hosting this prestigious event for the first time - during the awards ceremony for the World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025, one of the most anticipated events on the global gastronomic calendar. Maido in Lima, in Peru, was elected best restaurant in the world, succeeding Disfrutar in Barcelona, which ranked first in 2024.
This ranking establishes the excellence of today’s global dining scene.
Lima’s Maido is the World’s Best Restaurant in 2025
The iconic restaurant in Lima, Peru, Maido, topping the 2025 rankings, surpassing international restaurant giants.
Heading the restaurant is Chef Mitsuharu "Micha" Tsumura, a key figure in the contemporary culinary scene and an ambassador of Nikkei cuisine, a refined fusion of Japanese heritage and the deep, intense flavors of Peruvian tradition. Maido is no stranger to this type of recognition: it has topped the Latin American restaurant rankings four times in the past. But this global crowning represents a definitive consecration, especially in the year the restaurant celebrates its 15th anniversary.
With this recognition, Maido officially enters the prestigious “Best of the Best” category, the hall of fame reserved for the overall winners of previous editions. This recognition places it alongside legends like the aforementioned Disfrutar in Barcelona, which ranked first in 2024, and confirms Peru—and Latin America—as a key player on the global gastronomic scene.

Best Restaurants and Geographical Areas: Some Numbers to Understand
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2025 ranking is not only a celebration of individual excellence, but also a reflection of global gastronomic trends. Analyzing the geographical distribution, we have already mentioned that Europe continues to represent the gravitational center of global haute cuisine, with 21 restaurants in the top 50, distributed across Italy, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Austria, Sweden, Germany, and Portugal. In detail:
- Italy: 6 restaurants
- Spain: 3 restaurants
- France: 3 restaurants
- Denmark: 2 restaurants
- Germany, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, United Kingdom: 1 restaurant each
Asia also confirms its increasingly central role, with 11 restaurants in the ranking, led by Thai restaurant Gaggan (6th) and Japanese restaurant Sézanne (7th), both in the top 10. Bangkok stands out as the regional gastronomic capital with four restaurants listed.
Latin America strengthens its position with 8 restaurants, four of which are in Peru alone (three in Lima), including the overall winner, Maido. This is a clear sign of how the continent is consolidating a new, autonomous and mature gastronomic identity, capable of competing globally.
The United States, on the other hand, sees only one representative: Atomix of New York, in 12th place, confirming the competitiveness but also the selectivity of the list.
The Middle East establishes itself as a new frontier of haute cuisine (but luxurious and elitist), with Trèsind Studio of Dubai awarded the best restaurant in the region (27th), while Africa remains absent, although it sees symbolic recognition with the One to Watch award given to Khufu’s in Egypt.
